What's a Doodle?

There are two main types of "Doodles":
1) Labradoodles = LABRADor retriever + pOODLE
2) Goldendoodles = GOLDEN retriever + pOODLE

The Labradoodle originated in Australia close to twenty years ago and was bred intentionally to combine the reduced allergens and non-shedding traits of the poodle with the temperment of the Labrador.  Since the popularity of the Labradoodle has taken off, other "doodles" have become popular as well such as the Goldendoodle.

There are different classifications for the different generations of doodles:

F1: First Generation, a Lab bred to a Poodle (50% poodle, 50% lab).  Because this is a first generation cross the coat, build and size has a much greater potential for variation.

F1b: an F1 "back-crossed" to a poodle (75% poodle, 25% lab) usually for a curlier coat and lower shedding possiblities.

Multi-Generation: F1's and F1b's from different genetic backgrounds crossed together over several generations.   The multi-gens have the most predictable coats and sizes.

Labradoodles and other doodles have a rich history and a bright future as a beloved breed.  A great deal of hard work goes into the development of the breed.
